Fall is here and typically this means some extra pounds come with it! In fact the average weight gain during the fall season is approximately 5 – 10 pounds. It makes sense; the days are shorter, temperatures drop, the holidays are on the horizon and the fall season is full of calorie packed, carb heavy recipes.
Well, our HLN NOW series “Get it Back In Gear Monday’s” and these weekly emails are your solution to help prevent your waist line from increasing this season! Mike and I kicked off our Fall theme by sharing how you can eat your favorite Fall foods with a healthy twist. Check out 3 of our favorite Fall recipes created by Venice Nutrition’s Super Chef Valerie Cogswell. These delicious recipes are packed with flavor, full of antioxidants, and low in calories, refined sugar & fat! Here’s a snap shot of each:
1) Carrot and Ginger Soup
The fall season has a funny way of bringing the dreaded flu along with it. Most of us remember our mom’s magic chicken noodle soup to fight the flu and get you feeling better fast. With Carrot Ginger Soup, you’ll get a powerful boost of antioxidants to strengthen your immune system and that warm Fall memory that a nice hot soup brings.
2) Whipped Sweet Potatoes
Typically whipped sweet potatoes include loads of butter and sugar. Give this leaner sweet potato recipe a try; with just a touch of honey and sweet creamy mascarpone, it’s the perfect Fall side dish.
3) Pumpkin Ricotta
It’s pumpkin season! Here’s a delicious way to enjoy a creamy pumpkin dessert without all the extra fat and carbs found in traditional pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread!
